Port Hill House

Port Hill House is the big one: six bedrooms, room for fourteen, and a heated outdoor pool looking out over the south Leicestershire countryside. It is the house for a milestone birthday, three families at once, or the half of a wedding party that matters most.

You come in to a large open-plan entrance hall. To one side, a country kitchen with an AGA, two fan ovens and a table for six to eight — the sociable end of the house, with patio doors onto the garden. Across the hall, a properly spacious living room with an open fire, bay windows and seating for everyone at once. There is a separate dining room that seats all fourteen, an office, a utility and a downstairs loo.

Every bedroom has a king-size zip-and-link that splits into twins, so the sleeping arrangement bends to the party rather than the other way round. The master has a Juliet balcony over the garden and an en suite with a roll-top bath, rainfall shower and twin sinks; bedroom two has its own shower room. The snug off the utility has a sofa bed and a put-up for the overflow.

Outside: a large patio with furniture and a barbecue, garden games, a ping-pong table, and the pool, which is heated all year. A private dining package and a concierge service can be added — flowers, hampers, a chef.
